ABOUT US
Heidi Murkoff, President
Heidi Murkoff is the author of the country's leading pregnancy and parenting series, What to Expect, which has over 40 million copies in print, and the President and Co-Founder of The What to Expect Foundation. Heidi "conceived" the idea for What to Expect When You're Expecting during her first pregnancy, when she found the books then on the shelves only added to her questions and worries. She was determined to write a pregnancy book that would help expectant parents sleep better at night than she and her husband Erik had – and delivered the proposal for What to Expect just hours before delivering her daughter Emma.
Heidi teamed up with medical writer Arlene Eisenberg and Sandee Hathaway, BSN, to write what has become America’s pregnancy bible. A USA TODAY poll found 93% of all mothers who buy a pregnancy guide buy What to Expect, now in its 3rd edition. Heidi went on to write a bookshelf of parenting books that have helped millions of families from pregnancy through the toddler years, including: What to Expect the First Year (currently in its 2nd edition), What to Expect the Toddler Years, The What to Expect Pregnancy Organizer, The What to Expect Pregnancy Planner, the What to Expect Babysitter’s Handbook, a guide geared to babysitters and nannies, and and most recently, What to Expect: Eating Well When You’re Expecting, a complete guide to expectant eating. There is also a Spanish version of What to Expect called Que Se Puede Esperar Cuando Esta Esperando. Finally, Heidi has written the “What to Expect Kids” series, which introduces What to Expect’s unique approach to answering life’s important questions to a whole new generation of readers (it includes What to Expect When Mommy's Having a Baby and What to Expect at Preschool). What to Expect When You're Expecting was named the 11th bestselling book of any kind of the past 10 years by USA TODAY; What to Expect the First Year was 29th in the same roundup. She is also a senior contributing editor and columnist for Baby Talk and Parenting Magazines, and a frequent guest on such shows as CNN, The Today Show, The CBS Early Show, and Good Morning America. Murkoff's commitment to ensuring that every baby has a healthy start in life led her to co-found The What To Expect Foundation. Working with corporations, foundations and individuals who care about the most needy families, The Foundation is dedicated to helping low-income families expect healthy pregnancies, safe deliveries and happy babies. Murkoff has made numerous public and media appearances on behalf of the Foundation and has donated much of her time and all of her promotional fees. Murkoff worked closely with the Foundation to create Baby Basics: Your Month By Month Guide To A Healthy Pregnancy, a new, low-literacy prenatal guide that the Foundation distributes to clinics across the country. Heidi and her husband have two children and live in Southern California. |
