Success Stories

We hear so many stories about how moms and practitioners use and love our materials, we wanted to share them.  If you have your own story to share, please let us know!

Our Mom was having a beautiful water birth. She was in the tub and the Dad was leaning over her softly telling her what a great job she was doing, and saying other very supportive and nice things. The midwife encouraged him and praised him for his words to her. He turned and said to the midwife, “I learned what to say by reading the Baby Basics Book”.

The first participant to come to mind is Mary. She is 19 years old and gave birth to her first child last year.  I met Mary back in February at LifeSkills.  At that time, she reported having a learning disability.  In talking with her, it was obvious that some sort of delay was present.  At one visit several months ago, Mary showed me a homework assignment she was working on.  Unfortunately, I was able to see that her writing skills and comprehension skills are well below her grade level.  I remember her mentioning during that visit that she hates reading.  However, I kept her in mind for the start of Baby Basics because she had always been very engaged with the education I was providing her.  When I did introduce Mary to Baby Basics, she was very excited and interested in the book.  We reviewed the 7th month section together and she was very engaged.  When I returned for the next visit a few weeks later, Mary had the book with her at the table.  I asked her if she had been reading it, she smiled and said, "I read the whole thing!".  I was thrilled, of course, and she was very happy with herself for the accomplishment.  She knew exactly how to use it and even showed me where to find certain topics we were talking about.  She continues to have the book on hand for every visit.  Without a doubt, Baby Basics has been a tremendous asset in working with Mary, as well as many other participants.
